Sygma Investment and Consulting was formed in 2005 to provide Treasury and Corporate Governance services to the CGM Group of Maseru, the Denim Textile Group of Natal, and a selection of Asian purchasing offices operating in South Africa.
Due to dwindling margins available in the textile industry, Sygma sought to maximise returns from its Treasury business for its clients; and returns on the income generated from consulting.
The result was the formation of an investment team to concentrate full time on fund management. Equities are analysed, research is performed, and daily rates are sought for the best Money Market interest rates. Sygma managers now operate a fund, open for investment under strict governance principles. The directors of Sygma are constantly exposed to the world of international equities, and best practices management. Through their attendance at a myriad of local and international seminars, as well as significant investment in research, the directors have built up a wealth of experience in recognising companies that exhibit the traits that distinguish great investments from the ordinary. This experience and dicipline in adhering to the principles of Value Investing, ensures that investment decisions are made for the long term.
