The result was the formation of an investment team to concentrate full time on fund management. Equities are analysed, research is performed, and daily rates are sought for the best Money Market interest rates. Sygma managers now operate a fund, open for investment under strict governance principles. The directors of Sygma are constantly exposed to the world of international equities, and best practices management. Through their attendance at a myriad of local and international seminars, as well as significant investment in research, the directors have built up a wealth of experience in recognising companies that exhibit the traits that distinguish great investments from the ordinary. This experience, and discipline in adhering to the principles of Value Investing, ensures that investment decisions are made for the long term. The team featured on the following page is responsible for these, and other investment decisions. OUR INVESTMENT PHILOSOPHY We follow a value investing strategy that is an adaptation of Warren Buffett's approach. We seek to acquire shares in great companies that we understand and at a substantial discount to what we consider the true business value to be. We believe that, over time, the price of a stock will rise to reflect the value of the underlying company."In evaluating potential investments we focus on company's competitive position, leadership, its ability to generate large amounts of cash over the long haul and the intelligent investment of the excess cash." We look at each purchase as if we are buying a piece of a business, not just a stock certificate. We are buy-and-hold investors; we will not let short-term volatility dictate our decision making. Obviously we will sell shares if we believe if will benefit our long term returns. We believe the financial markets are chaotic. The prices of stocks and bonds depend on the human beings who buy and sell them, and those traders often act out of highly emotional reactions rather than coolly logical calculations. Opportunities can be found by carefully studying the value and the market prices of assets. |
